Our Mission, Vision and Values
At Pear Tree School, we believe that education should be directly related to and applied to real-life and that learning should be hands-on and experiential. We recognize that everything is interconnected and that learning should reflect this.
Since opening in 2016, Pear Tree School has quickly grown and expanded. Its recent facility upgrade has allowed the school to offer from Kindergarten to Grade 9, with Grades 10-12 to follow.

Our Unique Programming
At Pear Tree School, we teach through themes, rather than subjects. These themes are all directly related to our students’ real-world – starting locally and expanding universally. Project-based learning plays an integral approach in our learning, serving as an extension of our theme-based learning approach. By connecting education to real life, learning becomes meaningful, engaging, and challenging. Everything we do has an application, so there is never learning for the sake of learning.
Our approach values socio-emotional learning/life skills and physical development as much as academics. We also believe in holistic learning and nurturing the whole child. That is why we have daily PE, a mandatory hot lunch program, and seamlessly integrated socio-emotional mentoring.

The Community
Pear Tree School is located in the heart of the Kitsilano community in the City of Vancouver. Our central location is close to beautiful parks, fitness facilities, the beach, the forest, and urban gardens.
Application Requirements
All classroom teachers must have a minimum of a Masters in Education, demonstrate a growth mindset, and be educational leaders.
Salary and Benefits
Salaries start at $90,095 annually. Pear Tree offers a comprehensive benefits program, including dental, extended health, life insurance, long-term disability, and accidental death & dismemberment. We also provide professional development in-house and delivered through external facilitators. We believe that the more you learn, the better you’ll be able to help us!
We also offer excellent paid vacation time, including:
- 3-week Winter Break
- 2-week Spring Break
- 9 to 10-week Summer Break
