School Overview

Why teach at Okanagan Waldorf School?

Okanagan Waldorf (OWS) is a thriving school that offers Waldorf education from early childhood through Grade 8. We reach a diverse community within the Okanagan Valley, providing exceptional academics from a rural campus. The students are immersed daily in nature experiences which promotes holistic educational practices.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

We provide strong academics through purposeful experiences in the classroom and nature. In an environment of reverence and wonder, we seek to uncover the full potential in each child so that they may freely carry out their lives with courage and purpose. By creating meaningful relationships with the community and the environment, we contribute to positive social and ecological change.

We are a rural school located just 20 minutes from Vernon, BC, a city of 40,000 residents, and 45 minutes from Kelowna, a city of 128,000 residents. Vernon and Kelowna provide all the benefits of a large city close by, while closer to the school, you can enjoy a slower, rural pace of life.

School Community

Okanagan Waldorf School is located just outside of Vernon in the Whitevale area of Lumby, BC. Our school’s setting is on a 26-acre wooded campus surrounded by an 1100 acre working farm, so there’s lots of fresh air to enjoy!

As a Waldorf school, we acknowledge the spiritual aspect of every student, parent, and colleague. This allows for a unique experience of complete immersion in our work.

Lifestyle and Recreational Opportunities

The Okanagan Valley offers something for everyone; hiking, biking, camping, climbing, water sports, and winter sports in a family-oriented community.

Trails and lakes abound in this area as well as two large, yet family oriented, ski resorts, i.e. Silverstar Mountain and Big White.

You can also enjoy a variety of cultural activities, such as live theatre, music concerts, dance studio, art galleries, museums, and numerous festivals. The area is also host to a performing arts centre and national level hockey and skills training centres.
