We are committed to improving the achievement of all students. District goal areas are K-12 Dogwood Graduation Rates and School Completion Rates, Literacy/Numeracy, and Social Responsibility. We are also committed to our second five-year Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement with our six Aboriginal communities.

Specialty Programs

In addition to the 29 elementary schools, 6 secondary schools and 2 secondary learning alternative programs, the district also offers the Learn@Home K-7 program, the Learn@Home 8-12 program, the Career Technical Centre, and the Aurora Program on Gabriola Island. We have secondary specialty academies (soccer, hockey, jazz and performing arts) as well as established programs for international education and early French immersion.

Salary and Benefits

Teachers typically receive a comprehensive benefits package including:

Teachers in positions with special responsibilities, e.g. department heads, teacher coordinators, may receive a financial allowance of $2,000 – $4,000 annually.
