Crofton House was founded in 1898 by educational pioneer Dr. Jessie Gordon who believed in the transformative power of knowledge. She wanted Crofton House to be a school where young women could step beyond gender and reach the full extent of their potential. This philosophy has remained at the heart of Crofton House School for over a century.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY

We have a Junior School (Kindergarten to Grade 7) and Senior School (Grade 8 to 12). In the Junior School, play and creativity are combined with foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. Learning centres, abundant in resources, are tailored to students’ development and offer access to a carefully planned, secure outdoor play area. We focus on a dynamic co-curricular program that enhances school life to promote diverse interests and lifelong friendships.

In our Senior School, we provide an enriched and accelerated curriculum that meets or exceeds the BC Ministry of Education graduation requirements. Exposure to fine arts and applied skills complement a rigorous academic program that prepares young women for success in their post-secondary studies or other opportunities.

A dynamic co-curricular program enhances school life and promotes diverse interests and lifelong friendships. Our campus includes beautiful outdoor spaces with gardens, a magical wooded play space, areas for talking and walking with friends, and the open space of Kent Field – all providing a balance to classroom activities.

OUR UNIQUE PROGRAMS

Junior School students begin French in Grade 1, have access to learning resources supports, and benefit from specialist teachers in art, music, French and physical education. Senior School students can explore enriched and accelerated options, including Advanced Placement courses.

Our signature program, Ivy Compass, goes beyond the curriculum by integrating enriched learning opportunities. Senior School students embrace increasing leadership and responsibility and apply their learning through outdoor education, in the workplace, on global trips, in volunteer roles, and beyond the classroom.

Students are encouraged to participate in our competitive athletics program, performing arts programs (including drama and music) and the many clubs and activities that are part of our school community.

Our Location in Vancouver

We are located 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver in a quiet residential neighbourhood that is easily accessible by multiple bus routes. UBC is five minutes away, art galleries and museums are within 10 to 30 minutes of campus, and the Dunbar and Kerrisdale community centres are within easy walking distance.

 

LIFESTYLE AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

There is no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy in Vancouver and its nearby areas. From the city’s beaches you can paddleboard or just hang out.

Local mountains are easily accessible for hiking and skiing, and world-class Whistler is less than two hours away.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Crofton House is committed to making a difference in our community through many aspects of School life, including our Bursary Program, which offers financial assistance to students entering Grade 8, allowing girls to experience the value of a Crofton House education, regardless of financial circumstances; the Ivy Compass program, which promotes service learning and social and environmental responsibility among students in all grades; the annual Winter Bazaar that supports KidSafe, a local charity and our 20-year history of employees supporting the United Way.

Salary and Benefits

Crofton House School offers salaries ranging from $52,230-$97,631, which are above those provided by local school boards.

our generous benefits

Stipends are provided for positions that have additional responsibilities. We contribute 11% of an employee’s base salary to their RRSP (with the employee contributing a mandatory 7%). Additional benefits include extended health, dental, a transportation incentive program, tuition discount, free underground parking, Friday after-school intramurals for staff, staff appreciation events throughout the year and a community dining program.

Application Requirements

For teaching positions, candidates must be able to legally work in Canada and hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate. Please note that a teaching certificate is not required for non-teaching positions, e.g. education assistants, coordinators, facilities, etc.
