For more than 100 years, the Diocese of Nelson has been providing Catholic education to communities in the beautiful Okanagan and Kootenay regions of British Columbia. Presently, we operate six elementary schools in Cranbrook, Nelson, Trail, Penticton, Kelowna, and West Kelowna and one high school in Kelowna.

Community & School Culture

Each school community is unique. Each area offers an easy-going lifestyle amongst magnificent lakes, rivers, mountains, and forests. Recreational opportunities abound all year-round.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY

The Catholic school in each community works with the local Catholic parishes to support families seeking a faith-based education in the Roman Catholic tradition. The schools accept Catholic families first and foremost.

Non-Catholic families seeking a faith-filled education are also welcome. Students participate in daily prayer, retreats, monthly school masses, reconciliation services, and sacramental preparation.

LIFESTYLE AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

In the Kootenay’s and Okanagan, you can enjoy beautiful lakes, world-class wineries, and a vibrant cultural district, offer a wide variety of experiences for all ages. There are opportunities for swimming, water sports, golfing, hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling and more. Our communities are truly wonderful places to live, work, and play.

CHOOSE BETWEEN THE RURAL SETTING OF A SMALLER COMMUNITY OR A LARGER URBAN AREA

The Kootenay schools offer a more rural setting of smaller communities with a somewhat lower cost of living. The Central Okanagan schools are situated in more urban areas.

Salary and Benefits

Depending on qualifications and experience, teacher salaries range from $39,577 to $75,350

PROFESSIONAL AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Each school schedules professional and spiritual professional development during each school year. Additional opportunities are provided outside of scheduled professional development days. Every three years all staff from the seven schools gather together for a 3-day Diocesan conference.

In addition to all the documents included a typical teaching application, we also require a current pastor’s reference for all Catholic applicants.
