Why Teach at Catholic Independent Schools of Nelson Diocese (CISND)?
OUR MISSION, VISION AND VALUES
The Catholic Schools of Nelson Diocese, in partnership with the home and Church, strive to educate the whole child with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ as its foundation. By priests, administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and parish members all working together, the students of the CISND become life-long learners and fine contributing members of society.
Draw for Employees
From the moment you enter the front door, you will know you are in a Catholic School. We teach the BC curriculum in all subject areas and integrate the teachings of the Catholic faith. Our staff are dedicated to educating the “whole” child spiritually, physically, intellectually, culturally, emotionally, and socially.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT HERE

Successful applicants will be supported and connected to work with colleagues in their school and with other schools within our diocese.
Community & School Culture
Each school community is unique. Each area offers an easy-going lifestyle amongst magnificent lakes, rivers, mountains, and forests. Recreational opportunities abound all year-round.
The Catholic school in each community works with the local Catholic parishes to support families seeking a faith-based education in the Roman Catholic tradition. The schools accept Catholic families first and foremost.
Non-Catholic families seeking a faith-filled education are also welcome. Students participate in daily prayer, retreats, monthly school masses, reconciliation services, and sacramental preparation.
LIFESTYLE AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
In the Kootenay’s and Okanagan, you can enjoy beautiful lakes, world-class wineries, and a vibrant cultural district, offer a wide variety of experiences for all ages. There are opportunities for swimming, water sports, golfing, hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling and more. Our communities are truly wonderful places to live, work, and play.
CHOOSE BETWEEN THE RURAL SETTING OF A SMALLER COMMUNITY OR A LARGER URBAN AREA
The Kootenay schools offer a more rural setting of smaller communities with a somewhat lower cost of living. The Central Okanagan schools are situated in more urban areas.
Salary and Benefits
Depending on qualifications and experience, teacher salaries range from $39,577 to $75,350
PROFESSIONAL AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
Each school schedules professional and spiritual professional development during each school year. Additional opportunities are provided outside of scheduled professional development days. Every three years all staff from the seven schools gather together for a 3-day Diocesan conference.
In addition to all the documents included a typical teaching application, we also require a current pastor’s reference for all Catholic applicants.
