Teacher Certification - Make A Future

Teacher Certification

To work as a teacher  in B.C, you must hold a certificate of qualification issued by the Ministry of Education’s Teacher Regulation Branch.

If you are already qualified as a teacher in another province or territory in Canada and wish to be certified in British Columbia, you will need to submit an application which includes the following documentation for assessment by the College:

  • academic transcripts (to be sent directly to the College from the university/college)
  • proof of good standing with other regulatory body (to be sent directly to the College from the education authority)
  • teacher evaluation report on recent teaching experience from principal(s) or supervising official(s)
  • record of work experience
  • two character references
  • proof of citizenship/immigration status
  • proof of identity/legal name
  • evidence of language proficiency in English (may be required)
  • authorization for Criminal Record Check.

Applicants are required to submit verified copies of the required documentation. You may be required to satisfactorily complete additional academic and/or education courses, if your program of study does not meet requirements for certification in British Columbia. In some cases, this course work can be completed while holding a valid interim certificate of qualification.

If you do not have any teaching experience within the last 10 years from the date of your application, you will be required to complete an updating program comprised of course work and a practicum before you may be issued a certificate of qualification
