Specialty Programs

We have a variety of popular programs, including Indigenous education, Nature Education for Sustainable Todays and Tomorrows (NEST), Train in Trades career programs, community television, salmonid enhancement, international education, and peer counseling. We also have several early learning programs, including five StrongStart centres and SPARK!

The Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast has extensive opportunities for outdoor learning and playing. The communities of the coast are all accessed by the main highway between Langdale and Egmont and are small, safe, and beautiful. We are situated between the forest and the ocean, and are fortunate to enjoy a mild climate. These two factors allow for ample recreational pursuits: mountain biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking and, just up the mountain at Dakota Ridge, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.

The economy on the Sunshine Coast is largely driven by resource-related industries such as forestry and fishing. We also have a dynamic and growing arts community. We have performing arts: theatre groups, dance troupes, and a large variety of musicians. We have painters, potters and sculptors, as well as blacksmiths, glass blowers and a huge fiber arts community. The coast regularly host festivals, such as the Festival of the Written Arts, the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival, and the annual Art Crawl.

Regional Diversity

The Sunshine Coast of British Columbia is located 30 kilometres northwest of Vancouver and stretches 96 kilometres along the picturesque shores of Georgia Strait. Reached by a 40-minute ferry ride across Howe Sound from Horseshoe Bay, the Coast offers a wide range of recreational and educational activities for students and their families.

Approximately 3,300 students are enrolled in nine elementary and four secondary schools and supported by 600 dedicated staff. The size of our district allows for a close connection between the district, each of our schools and the community.

Draw for Employees

We have a mild climate and, although we have our own amenities – shopping, hospital, incredible recreational areas and facilities – we are only a 40-minute ferry ride away from the Vancouver area. We have a strong learning community team and employees enjoy annual staff curling, volleyball and golf tournaments.
