Why Teach at Vernon Christian School?
Vernon Christian School (VCS) is a well-established interdenominational Christian school in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. We have approximately 400 students in a two-campus, preschool to grade 12 program. Vernon Christian School has been in the community for over 40 years and is known for excellence in education, high student retention, low staff turnover and years of dedicated support from our school society. Our teachers are committed to providing transformational education within a vibrant and growing Christ-centered community.
Our Mission, Vision and Values
Our mission statement – “equipping students for a life of discipleship by providing transformational education in a Christ-centred community” – directs our vision and dreams for our entire education model. We prepare our students from preschool to grade 12 for leadership and service within a thriving, top-ranked Christian learning community. Students are engaged, inspired and challenged to pursue excellence in all areas of their lives.
Draw for Employees
VCS has built a remarkable professional learning community for its faculty, which functions very much like a family. Our teachers are the school’s heartbeat. Each one of our teachers has experienced a calling to the profession and ministry of teaching, and is committed to knowing, caring for and praying for their students. Staff are supported through mentorship and partnership opportunities. They have multiple weekly blocks for prep time for individual and collective development, as well as collaboration time.
Why you’ll love it here
The innovative, committed and growth-minded culture of our staff is what make VCS such a great place to work. Intimate social and classroom settings encourage students to be participants rather than spectators. This is true not only in the classroom but also in extracurricular programs where every student has a greater opportunity to contribute. All of our students possess a voice and talent and are encouraged to find it and share it. Our prayer is for each student discovers that they have a name and place in the heart of VCS.
Community & School Culture
School and Workplace Culture
We believe the purpose of education is not information but transformation. Every unit and learning experience is designed to invite students more deeply into God’s story, highlighting His truth in all subject areas. Only an education that has the liberty to address the whole child — social, intellectual, emotional, physical AND spiritual –reaches the possibility of excellence. Our teachers and the ways we teach affirm the unique, God-given gifts and talents of students and challenges them to achieve their amazing potential. Each child has a name and a place in the heart of VCS.
Our Unique Programs
Our curriculum and instruction are based on the “Teaching for Transformation” (TfT) framework – an educational model that equips teachers with the best in current, relevant core practices and planning tools to draw students into meaningful and even life-changing learning activities. Grounded in a biblical way of thinking and being, TfT uses the principles of real work, meeting real need, for a real audience to help students discover and practice living-out what it means to be God’s people in the world.
