School Overview

Highroad Academy was founded in 1978 by Glad Tidings Church as a place for a high-quality education based on Christian principles. Starting from a single classroom in the church basement with 30 students and three staff, our school now enrolls over 500 and employs 60 staff on a campus with more than 30 classrooms.

From a non-accredited system to a fully accredited school that not only meets Ministry of Education standards but has distinguished itself for academic awards, in addition to accolades for athletics, music, career education, and agriculture.

Included among our over 650 Highroad grads are tradespeople, pastors, doctors, social workers, police officers, parents, missionaries, and educators.

Why teach at High Road Academy?

Our goal is to equip our students with an academic and spiritual foundation that enables them to fulfill their individual calling and make a difference in their world. Highroad is a multi-generational school. Many of our current students are the children of our alumni, and the next generation is on its way. Spiritual and character development are integral to our identity. From morning devotions to Bible classes, assemblies, weekly chapels, and Biblical integration woven throughout the curriculum, our spiritual identity is what makes us who we are.

As a ministry of City Life Church, we are proud to serve families from more than 30 churches in Chilliwack. And while there may be differences in denominational beliefs, we find unity in the principles that tie us together: growing, learning, connecting, and serving, as the Body of Christ.

Our Vision, Mission & Values

The primary role of any school is to provide a solid education that will form a foundation of knowledge for lifelong learning. As a Christian school, Highroad Academy believes that education centers around three main components:

  1. A Biblical Foundation for Christian Education: The Bible serves as the basis for our educational endeavour, offers a solid foundation for our learning environment, and provides guidance for the spiritual development of our students. Throughout the educational process, we seek to integrate the two forms of revelation—the Word of God and his creation—and weave them into a meaningful and life-changing whole.
  1. An Educational Partnership: The home, church, and school should support and encourage one another as partners in Christian education. While the school focuses on education, we also complement and share in the responsibility of Christian parents to cultivate and develop a love for and knowledge of God and his world in each of our students.
  2. A Nurturing Atmosphere: The goal for interpersonal relationships at Highroad is a genuine concern for others that imitates the love that Christ has shown to us. Because each student is created in the image of God, children are taught the dignity and value of each individual while recognizing the overall importance of being united in Christ as a whole school community.

what our teachers have to say

“Highroad is more than a school, and working here is more than a job. Highroad is a community, a family. From the administration to the support staff, to the parents, this school feels like home. We grow together professionally, encourage each other in our endeavors to not only be the best teachers we can be, but to be the best people we can be in all areas of our lives” – Deana Larsson, Kindergarten teacher.

“Working at Highroad Academy has been a highlight in my career. I appreciate working closely alongside colleagues, collaborating on professional development and general daily classroom activities. The community is compassionate and supportive of both staff and students alike” – Kirsten Froyland, Grade 6 teacher.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT HERE

“I work at Highroad because of the community-centered environment in the hallways, classrooms, and staff room. I never have to compromise who I am, which means having the privilege to talk about my faith freely within an educational setting. Highroad also has high standards for professional development and ensures that the staff are given the opportunity to be life-long learners both in their subject areas and profession; in my time here I have been given countless opportunities to grow. Teaching here is a constant privilege and a joy” – Alyssa Miller, High School Humanities teacher.

Community and School Culture

SCHOOL COMMUNITY

A significant part of our identity is about reaching out. Through high school missions trips, over 175 students have had an opportunity to bring change and be changed in places like Brazil, Guatemala, Thailand, and Africa, and every week, our students are involved in serving the community through our partnership with groups like the Salvation Army, local elementary schools, and community services.

OUR UNIQUE PROGRAMS

Our Highroad Garden provides agricultural opportunities for our students, as well as supplying our students and local food banks with fresh produce. Through our career exploration partnerships, our students gain work experience in all types of occupations and trades, giving them a chance to better prepare for life beyond high school and allowing them to build connections with local businesses. Our international student program brings both short-term and long-term placements where students have come from all over Asia, as well as South America and Europe. These students have added diversity and cultural insights to our community.
