Education Assistants or Special Education Assistants are needed to fill part-time, full-time, and on-call assignments in BC school districts. Education Assistants work with classroom teachers for the personal care, education, and development of students with unique and significant physical, mental, behavioural, emotional or learning style differences.
The skills required in an education assistant role varies according to the assignment.
In some assignments, education assistants are required to have specialized knowledge and experience in working with students with special needs. There are also assignments that require education assistants to have proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). In other specialized roles, school districts are seeking individuals with experience working with Aboriginal students.
