Application Process

To apply for a vice-principal or principal position, most candidates must hold (or be enrolled in) a relevant master's degree and possess a valid B.C. Professional Teaching Certificate, along with demonstrated leadership and teaching experience. Most schools are looking for candidates who bring a strong combination of instructional leadership and student-centred support.

Ideally, those interested in working in secondary schools would have experience with high school programs, curriculum implementation and assessment practices. Principals at all school levels are generally need the ability to support diverse learners, particularly students with social-emotional and behavioural needs.

Other strengths include strong communication, organization and team-building skills are essential. Experience in counselling, learning support services and developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), along with a track record of ongoing professional growth, are also highly valued.
