Districts are seeking elementary and secondary teachers in full-time, part-time and on-call positions. Communities from the northwest reaches of the province along the Alaskan border to the northeastern stretch along the Alberta border.
Teaching in rural BC comes with benefits
Full-time teaching positions in some school districts may be eligible to receive annual isolation and related allowances as well as moving/allocation and remote recruitment and retention allowances. Several school districts also offer additional funding, including financial assistance for travel and housing.

The Ministry of Education and Child Care, in partnership with the British Columbia Public School Employers' Association (BCPSEA) and members of the British Columbia School Superintendents Association (BCSSA) northern chapter, launched the Northern teacher recruitment and retention pilot last spring to address the immediate need for teachers in the North.
Aside from developing recruitment strategies and marketing activities to attract candidates to Northern B.C., the pilot involves the provision of targeted hiring incentives, which are still available today for new teachers in certain northern school districts.
Part of the funding was used to provide targeted hiring incentives of up to $5,000 per teacher. Those incentives are still available today for new teachers in certain northern school districts.
Teacher hiring boom in BC
Last fall, 50 new teachers in BC, 41 in the North, seven on Vancouver Island and two in Thompson-Okanagan were hired and received incentives.
