Who Can Apply?

  • Currently enrolled in an EA certification program
  • Not certified but have experience working with children/youth or seniors with diverse abilities in another capacity
  • Not certified but have a certificate/diploma in a related field (i.e., Community Caregiver, Health Care Assistant, Care Aide, Early Childhood Education, etc.)

In addition, some districts hire for similar support roles that value your skills, like Responsible Adults and Inclusion Support Workers. These positions can be a great steppingstone if you’re pursuing EA training or considering it for the future.

Not every district hires uncertified EAs. If you are interested in working in a specific district, we encourage you to reach out to their human resources team to inquire what opportunities may be available to you.

Education Assistant Salary in B.C.

Education Assistants in B.C.’s K-12 Education Sector are members of their local support staff union. The terms of employment, including hours of work, will vary depending on the district, the collective agreement, and the type of position held by the employee.

Support Staff Essential to B.C. Classrooms

Education Assistants who support students with special needs are also known as Special Education Assistants (SEAS). The supports they provide include behaviour management, curriculum implementation, social skills development, personal care and physical assistance.
