Senior Finance and Accounting Careers

In the school district’s finance department, finance and accounting managers are responsible for the budgeting, financial reporting, legal and general business activities of the District.

The Secretary-Treasurer is the Chief Financial Officer and member of the senior management team. Other positions within the financial management team include:

  • Assistant Secretary-Treasurer
  • Director of Finance
  • Controller
  • Accountant
  • Supervisor of Payroll
  • Manager of Procurement (Purchasing)

Those in senior management finance roles may be members of the BC Association of School Business Officials.

Qualifications and Certification Details

Directors and managers in finance and account typically possess a related degree, diploma, certificate or combination of experience and training. Some positions may require professional designation or certification.

Manager of payroll may require a certified payroll manager certificate, and a CPA designation (Canadian Payroll Association).

A Manager of Procurement (Purchasing) may require purchasing certification.

All other positions require a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) accounting designation.
