School Overview

Located in Vancouver, St. John’s School is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, co-educational, non-denominational, urban, IB World School.

Why teach at St. John’s School?

We offer the primary years, middle years and diploma programmes. In 2018, we completed our new Arts and Science Centre, which adds 23,000 square feet to our facility and includes new visual and performing arts studios, science laboratories, a learning commons, homerooms, language classrooms and the rooftop garden.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

Our mission is to inspire academic excellence in our students and graduates, who are confident learners and who pursue their goals with passion, integrity and respect for others within the global community. Our vison is to be recognized internationally as a leading independent school with a global approach to learning. We are guided by the core values of character, diligence, loyalty and service.

Our Unique Programs

We strongly believe the IB Programme is the best program available today to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young men and women who will create a better world. We are confident that the inquiry-based and comprehensive learning approach of IB provides our students with a dynamic and engaging learning environment that equips each child with the communication, critical thinking and teamwork skills to be a happy and successful lifelong learner.

The Community

St. John’s School is located in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood, which is close to urban amenities (such as shopping and places to eat) as well as recreational opportunities (beaches and parks).

School Community

We believe in a well-rounded education that encourages personal growth and the development of a strong moral compass. The foundation of the IB programme is character development. The academic, service and co-curricular programme at St. John’s School, as well as our culture and educators, all contribute to the goal of fostering good people and instilling core values.

From academics to athletics, arts to technology, our students are learning the skills that will help prepare them for a life of purpose.

Lifestyle and Recreational Opportunities

One of the attractions of living in Vancouver is its close proximity to a great variety of outdoor and cultural activities. Specifically, St. John’s is close to the beach (a 15-minute walk), sailing and kayaking (a five-minute drive), skiing and hiking in the local north shore mountains (a 30-minute drive), and a 30-minute walk or 10-minute drive to downtown, with its opportunities for world-class dining, sporting events (professional hockey and soccer), museums and the arts (such as the Vancouver Symphony and other performing arts).

Excellent gym facility at the school

The school is accessible to staff 24/7 and has an excellent gym and fitness facility.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive employment package within the Vancouver marketplace. Key elements of this package include: salary, comprehensive benefits, access to professional development, and excellent working conditions. We compare our package with other public and independent schools within Metro Vancouver. A competitive employment package ensures we are able to attract, hire and retain the very best people.

St. John’s School’s salary grid closely follows the local public school grid, but with a premium of about 7.5% at all levels. We offer a full suite of benefits, including extended health, vision and dental, long-term disability, life insurance, an employee assistance program and an RRSP plan whereby the employee can contribute up to 8% of their pay that will be matched by the school.

Why you’ll love it here

The strength of St. John’s lies in its diverse, engaging and caring school community of staff, administrators, parents and students. We are often described as a warm and caring community – a place where our parents feel confident that their child will be cared for. Although we don’t do much advertising, there are waitlists for all grades, reflecting the fact that parents learn about the school through referrals from other happy parents and students.

Other Perks

Our staff benefit from a health spending account of $600 per year, with the option of carrying forward unused balances for one year.
