Why Teach At Skeetchestn Community School?

Working at “Skeetch is a peach.” Located approximately 45 minutes from downtown Kamloops, Skeetchestn is nestled in a beautiful valley. Day-to-day responsibilities for teaching staff and support staff are similar to what is seen in the public school system, since we teach the BC curriculum. The main difference is that our school offers Secwepemctsin from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Staff and students both participate in the rich history of the Skeetchestn people.

School community

Skeetchestn Community School aims to provide a unique, culturally relevant, high-quality education for all. We strive to maintain a caring and respectful environment that consistently upholds the high academic standards of Canadian and Secwepemc cultures.

Why You’ll Love It Here

Educators at our school consistently speak highly of our small classroom sizes, which translates to less time needed for preparation and report card writing. Our school regularly teams up with neighbouring schools to offer world-class professional development opportunities, which have included fantastic training from Adrienne Gear with a focus on Reading Power and a focus on mental well-being with registered psychologist Dr. Darien Thira.

Our Community

Skeetchestn is located just 10 minutes away from Savona, nestled in a beautiful valley with the winding Deadman creek carving through its beautiful geography. People that are not members of the Skeetchestn Indian Band tend to live in the neighbouring communities of Kamloops, Savona, Cache Creek or Ashcroft.

People are attracted to this region for its beautiful geography, hot summers, mild winters (compared to most places in Canada) and opportunities for an active outdoor lifestyle.

Salary And Benefits

Salaries range from $17.50-$36.00 per hour, and we offer a benefits package that includes extended health and a Band-matched pension plan, a $3000 annual gas reimbursement for commuting teachers, a two-week spring break and free breakfast and lunch.

Application Requirements
