Our District

Through collaborative leadership and the use of available resources, we provide learners with opportunities to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet the challenges of our complex and changing society.

Specialty Programs

Academic instruction and achievement is a strength of our district. We offer a wide range of curricula and diverse opportunities for students as soon as they enter the school system. We currently offer many dual-credit high school programs, and our adventure tourism training program includes a variety of summer leadership camps. Music and drama are key elements of our vast fine arts program.

Regional Diversity

Powell River is a safe, quiet community linked to Vancouver by two ferries and regular air service. Our breathtaking scenery and mild climate make this an ideal place to live and work, and we are a growing recreational and retirement destination. Outdoor activities are enjoyed year-round (including fishing, boating and diving), and the area has a multitude of hiking trails.

Community Culture

Our community generously supports arts and culture (through events such as the International Choral Kathaumixw Festival, Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, Blackberry Festival, Agricultural Fall Fair, Art in the Park, Writers Festival, Film Festival, Performing Arts Festival and Sunshine Music Festival) as well as numerous sporting events.

Draw for Employees

We offer the benefits of a smaller school district within a community that is rich in arts, culture and recreation opportunities. Our facilities are state-of-the-art: Brooks Secondary School, for example, boasts a 400-seat theatre and performance area, artificial turf playing field with lights, film studio and daycare.
