School Overview

Why teach at Maple Hill School?

Maple Hill School provides students with a strong academic curriculum and a wide range of programs and services to meet their diverse needs and interests. Our students come from around the world to learn from each other and deepen their understanding and appreciation of diversity.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

Maple Hill School’s mission is to prepare students to be successful in both their academic and personal life after high school. Our students receive an individualized education that caters to their specific academic goals – whether that’s applying to one of the world’s top-ranked universities or to a small college. We work with our students to make sure their post-secondary dreams can become a reality.

Our Unique Programs

We provide a wide range of support to our students. Study advisors provide friendship, help with adjustment to Canadian culture, initiate connections to peers, give guidance with homework, track academic progress and help them anytime help is needed. Our team of staff ensures that a student is well taken care of from the moment they arrive in Canada. A staff member will pick them up at the airport, set up the homestay, arrange a local guardian, introduce them to a family doctor, and offer assistance on all aspects of Canadian life and culture.

The Community

We are located in Richmond, adjacent to the Aberdeen Canada Line Station, allowing for easy commuting to and from anywhere in the Lower Mainland. There are many great shopping opportunities within steps of the campus, as well as a wide variety of food options. We are also located within walking distance of fitness facilities, including the Richmond Olympic Oval, which is a state-of-the-art sports complex and community centre.

School Community

Maple Hill School has embraced the new BC curriculum components of creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. These 21st-century skills will provide students with the abilities they need for the ever-changing and exciting future ahead. Our academic program includes in-school instruction, as well as inquiry-based learning at our attractive campus, in our field trips and excursions. Students from around the world are joining our student body to share their determination and spirit of adventure.

We help students develop the personal and academic skills they’ll need to succeed wherever they wish to go when leaving high school. Maple Hill offers many student supports, such as coaching and homestay placement to ensure that every student is properly cared for in an environment where success is nurtured.

Lifestyle and Recreational Opportunities

Maple Hill School is within walking distance of the world famous Richmond Night Market. Check out the different food stalls and other attractions at the largest night market in North America.

World-class culinary experiences can be found all over Richmond – just one example is the self-guided Dumpling Trail that will see you enjoying dumplings from 20 different restaurants and food stalls across Richmond!

Richmond is home to many different parks and has a long history as a fishing community. Spend the day in Steveston to learn about the history of fishing at the mouth of the Fraser River, or explore the city’s vast dike and take in breathtaking views of the Salish Sea.

Draw for Employees

Teachers at Maple Hill School benefit from flexibility – they are paid on a per-class basis and can choose how much they want to work. A full-time teacher would typically teach 10 courses from September to June over three semesters (September to December, January to April and May to June). The May to June semester is run like a summer school with an accelerated finish time as only two blocks of classes are scheduled. Maple Hill also runs classes in July in August.

Salary and Benefits

After a three-month probation period, staff are eligible for extended health benefits. Teachers are also provided time to pursue professional development opportunities and to participate in multiple professional development days throughout the year.

Why you’ll love it here

Teachers are given regular professional development opportunities and can pursue interests with help from the school principal. There is time set aside every Friday to pursue professional development and to work and learn as a staff team.

We offer many leadership opportunities for teachers wishing to pursue an educational leadership role, and the school principal acts as a coach, helping educators grow in their practice.
