Overview: Teaching at LOISS

Lanzhou Oriental Education Group operates the BC Offshore School program at Lanzhou Oriental International Secondary School (LOISS) in Lanzhou, Gansu, China. We are a small BC program that has offered high quality programming since 2013, preparing our students well for post-secondary studies in Canada and other countries.

About lanzhou

Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu province. The gateway to western China, Lanzhou is a modern, cosmopolitan city with an important place in Chinese history as a hub on the Silk Road trade route. A medium-sized city by Chinese standards, today Lanzhou offers all the amenities that a BC teacher might hope to find.

The city is surrounded by mountains, national parks, and temples. Ancient Buddhist cave sites and monasteries are just some of the important historical, architectural, and cultural attractions in and around Lanzhou. The city is served by an international airport, ensuring easy access to all major Chinese cities. The excellent rail system also connects Lanzhou to the rest of China, be that the deserts and mountains to the north and west or the large cities to the south and east.

Lanzhou has a much lower cost of living than eastern China. The temperate semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cold, dry winters allows for yearlong outdoor pursuits.

School and Community Culture

We are a small but mighty BC program. With three BC teachers and a projected enrolment of 60 students in 2023-2024, we envision growing each year to meet our five-year projection of ten BC teachers and 200 students. BC teachers are supported by an excellent bilingual national staff. We pride ourselves on our family atmosphere and are looking to recruit teachers who understand that BC education is so much more than what happens in the classroom. We invest in our students and their success through classroom interactions and a range of co-curricular activities throughout the year.

As well as the competitive annual compensation and incentives package, BC teachers receive a number of benefits from the host school. Paid trips, gifts at Chinese and Western festivals and holidays, and banquets throughout the year ensure that the BC teachers feel a valued part of the LOISS family.
