Why teach at Kimberley Independent School?

We are a vibrant, non-profit, inclusive school community where students are nurtured to learn and grow through creative and intellectual exploration. Kimberley Independent School provides high-quality academic learning in an environment that fosters positive relationships with peers and the community.

MISSION, VISION AND VALUES

KIS is a small, vibrant K-9 independent school, tucked into the heart of the Rocky Mountain Trench. We pride ourselves in a loving and caring environment where children feel safe and heard.

Draw for Employees

We are an independent school that offers educators the opportunity to help children learn in a fresh approach that incorporates their interests as well as the staff’s passions. We also offer a healthy work-life balance with ample prep time and small class sizes.

WHY YOU’ll Love it here

We come together as a team to support each other, learn from each other and identify ways that we can better meet the needs of our students. Co-operation among team members enhances our school’s performance and benefits the school as a whole. We are passionate about taking learning outdoors into nature’s classroom.

Community & School Culture

School community

Kimberley Independent School is a WILD BC school and we do as much of our learning outdoors with an enriched place-based learning philosophy. We offer education with a vibrant approach that takes students out into the community and surrounding areas to learn, to do and to grow. We think beyond traditional learning and our students are given the opportunity to learn subject matter in deep and lasting ways. This approach, combined with daily French and extracurricular activities, gives students a solid and well-rounded education where they flourish day after day.

Classes are capped at 16 students, allowing each student to grow and succeed. We believe in real place-based learning where students are outdoors learning in nature and in our community. With our location in the beautiful east Kootenays, we have many wonderful settings to take learning outdoors.

Welcome to Kimberley, BC, a good place to be!

Our community is situated in the Purcell Mountains with extraordinary views of the Kootenay Rockies, and we think we’re pretty fortunate. It could be because of the scenery, or the endless activities (including a ski hill and three golf courses on your doorstep, as well as mountain biking, fishing, hiking, camping and water sports), or simply because our people make it a good place to live, work, learn and play. People come to Kimberley for the relaxed lifestyle and slower pace of life.

Salary and Benefits

Salaries range from $39,500 to $70,000 for teachers. We provide medical, vision and dental insurance, three professional development days, and an extra week off in both October and May.
