Welcome to Jean Marie Joseph School

Why You’ll Love It Here

At Jean Marie Joseph School, you’ll join a close-knit Dakelh community where every student is known by name. Small class sizes allow you to build strong relationships and make a meaningful impact each day.

You’ll bring learning to life through culturally relevant, land-based experiences — from salmon restoration to traditional nutrition programs — within a Band-run, FNSA-accredited school.

Here, you’ll be supported with professional development through FNESC and FNSA, access to authentic First Peoples resources, and a foundation rooted in the First Peoples Principles of Learning, helping you grow while making a real difference.

What We Value

Our School Community

JMJS is in an exciting phase of renewal, guided by a new Director of Education and School Principal who are committed to revitalizing the education program. Together, they are fostering an engaging, student-centered environment that embraces fresh pedagogy and meaningful cultural learning.

This renewed vision is focused on empowering students to grow confidently across grade levels in a dynamic and supportive setting. A newly forming Yekooche Education Council will further strengthen this work, ensuring that community voice and leadership are central to the school’s direction.

Living in Yekooche

This remote community offers a rich blend of outdoor living and meaningful community engagement.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Stuart Lake, you can enjoy summer kayaking and canoeing, as well as winter ice fishing — ideal for those seeking an active, nature-focused lifestyle.
