School Overview

Hope Lutheran Christian School (HLCS) is a vibrant K-8 school blessed with an exceptional community of learners, parents and staff.

Why Teach at Hope Lutheran Christian School?

HLCS is highly regarded in our community for being a safe, caring and engaging learning environment where parents and teachers work collaboratively for the best school experience a child can have.

Our single purpose is equipping every student to impact the world for Christ’s glory. We do this with a culture of constant care and attention to student-centred teaching, Christ-centred discipleship and a grace-filled community of parents and staff.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

Our mission is to equip each child to impact the world for Christ’s glory. We are guided by our core values of equipping, belonging and discipling.

Draw for Employees

Our school strives to cultivate a culture in our community that is open, inclusive and welcoming. It is a grace-filled place where support, collaboration and mentoring are commonplace and readily available. We value professionalism, respect, clear communication and a sense of joy in everything that we do.

Why you’ll love it here

Teachers are supported in their professional development through their growth plans. The school offers financial assistance and continuing education grants to teachers wanting to pursue specific courses or training. Opportunities for leadership development are also supported.

HLCS is a family, not just a place to work. We value each individual staff member’s ideas and contributions to the team. We support and take care of each other, pray for each other and find joy in our relationships and our challenges.

A culture of collaboration and mentorship

HLCS’s collaboration and mentorship programs support all teachers. Management is strongly supportive of new ideas and initiatives, and teachers are encouraged to pursue leadership opportunities. Teachers can expect a strong sense of satisfaction in their work.

Hope Lutheran’s Community

People are drawn to our school by word of mouth from our parents who describe us as deeply caring, high achieving, community-oriented and Christ-centred.

Campuses

We have two separate campuses – an elementary school (K-5) and a middle school (6-8) – that offer unique programs, and that differentiate learning across different levels of ability. The school is focused on providing students with choice and learning opportunities that go beyond the classroom in exploring and developing their gifts and talents. Our elementary campus is in Port Coquitlam and our middle school campus is located in Pitt Meadows. Both communities are part of Metro Vancouver and approximately 30 minutes from the City of Vancouver by public transit.

School Community

Our community is diverse and full of energy and full of new ideas. Parents and teachers are rooted in the local community and work in partnership with the wider community. Parents are active participants in school activities. Our church also provides the foundation on which our missionary focus stands.

Lifestyle and Recreational Opportunities

Our community includes parks, sports complexes, restaurants, recreation centres, libraries, arts/cultural centres, major shopping malls and healthcare facilities.

City conveniences and access to the outdoors

You can easily participate in the many outdoor, sporting, leisure and cultural activities available in the Lower Mainland. Hiking, kayaking, canoeing and camping are conveniently accessible thanks to the nearby proximity of parks, rivers, lakes and mountains.

An affordable location

Port Coquitlam and Pitt Meadows are less dense and offer a slower pace of life and relatively more affordable housing than areas closer to the City of Vancouver.
