Welcome to Bunka Suginami Canadian International School

Teach, travel and explore Japan while working at Tokyo’s prestigious Bunka Suginami Canadian International School (BSCIS). Entering its fourth year of operation, BSCIS is a school known for employing innovative teaching strategies, its impressive student academics and exemplary annual inspections from the BC Ministry of Education.

Why You’ll Love It Here

Teach at a highly rated B.C. offshore school in Japan and experience the dynamic lifestyle of living and working abroad. There are three certified B.C. offshore schools: in Tokyo (BSCIS), Osaka (OGCIS) and Yokkaichi (KCDDS).

Our schools offer a dual Japanese and B.C. high school graduation program (Double Diploma), providing graduates with expanded opportunities as global citizens and strong pathways to leading universities in Japan and around the world.

What We Value

At Bunka Suginami Canadian International School, our mission is “to empower each student to achieve academic excellence and develop as responsible, socially aware and compassionate citizens through a supportive, innovative and highly creative learning environment”.

Our vision is to “cultivate a community that is committed to growth, leadership and excellence so that every member of the learning community to flourish and thrive.”

What Makes Us Unique

At BSCIS, we offer an inclusive and responsive approach to teaching the B.C. curriculum.

Our Double Diploma program is unique and supports students in achieving both Japanese and B.C. graduation credentials. Our staff engage in ongoing, meaningful professional development to effectively integrate student self-reflection, the Core Competencies, project-based learning, and support for students’ social-emotional well-being and mental health.

As a result, our students experience strong academic success, with the majority graduating with Honours distinction and earning acceptance to top-ranked universities in Japan, Canada and around the world.

Our School Community

Our school community is a collaborative learning community comprising 18 teachers whose experience at BSCIS ranges from newly hired educators to staff members with more than six years at the school.

The teaching team is supported by a highly experienced B.C. principal and a newly appointed vice-principal who provide strong instructional leadership. B.C. staff work closely with the host school to support students in Grades 7–12 enrolled in the Double Diploma program.

BSCIS is located in Tokyo, with subsidized teacher housing provided as part of the employment contract. Both the school and staff accommodations are situated in an urban area close to a wide range of restaurants, recreational facilities and shopping centres.
