Welcome to Arrow Lakes

We are committed to helping every student achieve their full academic potential while developing the skills, adaptability and respect needed to thrive in a changing world.

Through strong partnerships with families and communities, and the dedication of highly professional staff, we support students in becoming caring, capable and engaged citizens.

Why You’ll Love It Here

Our small rural district is supported by dedicated staff who care deeply about students and go the extra mile to support their success.

Across our six schools, educators, support staff, parents, district leaders and the Board of Education share a strong commitment to student learning and well‑being, creating welcoming environments where students can thrive.

Located in the Arrow Lakes and Slocan Valley, we serve the geographically and culturally rich Arrow Slocan region. Scenic highways connect lakes, rivers, farmland and historic communities framed by forested mountains and alpine peaks, creating a strong sense of place for local families.

What We Value

Our district is committed to a collaborative learning community rooted in strong academics, student well‑being and a meaningful connection to the land. We aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills and resilience needed to succeed in a changing world.

Our Values: Responsibility, Collaboration, Compassion, Creative Thinking and Resiliency.

Our Strategic Plan was shaped through extensive school and community consultation and is guided by four key priorities: Competency, Health, Environment and Collaboration.

What Makes Us Unique

In addition to strong classroom teaching, all schools have access to learning resource support, counselling and consultant services.

Specialized supports — including Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech‑Language Pathology, School Psychology and services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students — work collaboratively with our district to support students and staff.

The Joint Mentorship Program connects early‑career teachers with experienced educators to support professional growth and well‑being. A joint initiative of SD10 and ALTA, the program offers release time, funding, and structured learning opportunities that strengthen our teaching community.

Our School Community

Our innovative, place‑based approach to learning — set in a stunning mountain environment — offers meaningful learning experiences recognized across the province and beyond. We are known for leadership in environmental education, place‑conscious learning and the creative personalization of student learning.

Inclusive classrooms and small class sizes provide multiple pathways for students to access the curriculum and demonstrate learning. By knowing each learner well, we are able to support individual strengths, interests and needs.

Life in Arrow Slocan

Our rural and remote district offers educators meaningful career opportunities alongside an active, connected lifestyle.

Nakusp, the district’s largest community with a population of approximately 1,600, is a welcoming lakeshore town in B.C.’s West Kootenay region. Residents enjoy year‑round recreation like hiking, paddling, and biking to skiing and snow sports, alongside community facilities, beaches and trails.

Nakusp and nearby New Denver provide hospital and emergency services, and Nakusp is home to an Integrated Health Centre. Historic downtowns, local shops, cafes and arts spaces contribute to a strong sense of place, making Arrow Slocan an attractive destination for educators seeking balance, connection and quality of life.
