Our Unique Programs

This aim drives the design of many innovative programs at the school: Incubator for Social Innovation, Project-Based Learning, Capstone, International Exchange, Community-based Learning, Outdoor Education, Career and Life Connections, and STEAM. Our Little School embraces the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education.

As a school, we invite the creative input of faculty into the development of such programming. We provide robust professional development to support the ongoing design of strong foundational and transformative learning experiences.

The Community

School Community

We deliver a challenging curriculum that is learner-centred and flexible. While we emphasize foundational learning of literacy and numeracy, our programs focus on providing meaningful and authentic learning experiences that empower deeper learning through concept-based and competency-driven approaches. Additionally, our curriculum framework aims to nurture and develop global competencies in our students from Junior Kindergarten all the way through to Grade 12.

Whether a Yorkie is learning to problem solve through play, or taking a university level Advanced Placement course, our students are encouraged to develop skills and attributes that will enable them to gain independence and a powerful sense of self and agency.

Technology tools are embedded across the school to authentically support student learning. Leveraging these tools allows our students to think critically about information and the world around them and to develop digital literacies that will serve them well into the future. Our One-to-One Technology Program from Grade 6 to Grade 10 allows students on-demand access to personal research and creative digital tools that help reinforce learning and understanding.

Lifestyle and Recreational Opportunities

We are located in the heart of Vancouver, near the nightlife of downtown with theatres, restaurants, festivals and concerts; the waterfront for walking on the seawall; Granville Island for weekend market activity; and Pacific Spirit Regional Park at UBC.

We are very close to several parks for outdoor walks and connection to nature, including Van Dusen, Queen Elizabeth and Stanley Park. Great bus service allows for fast travel to all parts of Vancouver.

The nearby districts of Kitsilano, Kerrisdale, West Broadway and South Granville include so much of what metropolitan Vancouver has to offer, including shopping, restaurants, outdoor parks with festivals, beaches and magnificent mountain views.
