Fraser Academy is an accredited member of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), the Independent Schools Association of British Columbia (ISABC), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the Federation of Independent Schools Association (FISA).

Located in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood, Fraser Academy is a leader in the empowerment and education of students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences. With 10 students per class, teachers are enabled to differentiate and personalize instruction. Students use a 1:1 laptop model, and teachers are encouraged to explore different modalities of teaching and assessment.

Fraser Academy is a dynamic learning community where we provide ample opportunity for professional development as a part of our continuous improvement model. We also ensure support through our faculty mentoring program to ensure continued development. Furthermore, Fraser Academy puts a strong emphasis on continuing faculty education, providing funding and time. Promoting from within is an ethos, and professional performance is rewarded.

THE COMMUNITY

Fraser Academy is located in the heart of Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood, a relaxed neighbourhood made up of active young professionals and families. The area is close to the beach, parks and some main commercial districts. You’ll find family-friendly attractions (the Museum of Vancouver, H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and the Vancouver Maritime Museum), sports/exercise facilities and community centres (Fraser Academy is located next to the Kitsilano Community Centre).

LIFESTYLE AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

People are drawn to Kitsilano’s mountain views, walkable streets, beaches and laid-back atmosphere. There are a variety of activities for residents to enjoy on their time off. They can share a picnic with friends at the beach, visit museums, shop at trendy boutiques or outdoor apparel stores, and enjoy a meal or coffee at one of the unique neighbourhood cafes/restaurants. Kitsilano is the perfect mix of quiet and trendy. It is also known as a “health-conscious” neighbourhood that is home to many yoga studios and healthy markets and restaurants.

Salary and Benefits

Teacher salary information

For teachers in 2019/20, we offer the Vancouver School Board School District 39 teacher grid plus 3.5%. Starting in 2020/21, we offer the Vancouver School Board School District 39 teacher grid plus 7%. Other benefits include two personal days per year, as well as extended health benefits, short- and long-term disability, maternity leave top-up and employer-contributions to RRSPs after the first year of employment.

We believe in developing our people, and as such have a robust professional development program through in-house professional development, as well as opportunities for educators to attend external conferences and presentations.
