New Education Assistant Program Creates Job Prospects

Greater Victoria School District No. 61 is partnering with Camosun College to offer a foundation program for those seeking employment as Educational Assistants with the District. This newly created part-time program commences in May 2013 and finishes in December 2013.

Those who are interested in learning more about this opportunity may attend an information session by emailing Greater Victoria School District at hrs@sd61.bc.ca. The information session will provide details about the entrance requirements, employment opportunities, and costs associated with the program.

In attendance will be staff from School District 61 and representatives from Camosun College to answer any questions that you may have.

Education assistants (EAs) are one of the most in-demand support staff workers in BC schools. In 2012, there were 73% more EA job vacancies posted on Makeafuture.ca than the prior year.

A New Mentoring Blog for Early Career Teachers

British Columbia educators with an interest in teacher mentorship are encouraged to check out Teacher Mentorship BC’s new blog.

TMBC is a network of educators from BC school districts, post-secondary institutions, union locals and assorted partner organizations, including Make A Future.

Its goals are to advocate for mentorship support for early career teachers, and to share information and resources informing current work with the newest members of the BC teaching profession.

The blog includes information about mentorship resources, upcoming meetings and learning opportunities, as well as key contact people around the province.
