In education, a director or senior manager in human resources is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and administration of the District’s Human Resources policies and procedures. This includes the overall management and delivery of all human resources and labour relations services in in a complex multi-union environment.

Employees in this department are responsible for the overall management and delivery of various of services including:

  • recruitment and selection,
  • compensation and benefits,
  • human resource planning,
  • employee relations and retention,
  • employee records management,
  • collective bargaining,
  • and labour relations.

Certification and Qualification Details

HR positions generally require a related degree, diploma, certificate or combination of experience and training. Some positions may require professional designation, such as a CPHR (Chartered Professionals in Human Resources) from the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of British Columbia and Yukon (CPHR BC & Yukon).

Human resources professionals in BC schools may be members of the BC Association of School Business Officials.
