Typical Teaching Roles and Positions in BC

Teachers and Administrators include a variety of positions, from teacher to principal, and even Superintendent. Read on to learn more about each position, and what you need to become start making a future in BC’s classrooms.

Teacher-on-Call (TOC)

Casual or substitute public school teacher of various subjects from Kindergarten to grade 12.  Most TOCs in BC are certified, however in some districts non certificated people are hired. BC College of Teachers Certificate required.

Teacher

Public school teacher of various subjects from Kindergarten to grade 12. This may include those specialized positions such as counsellor, librarian, learning assistance teacher, and others. BC College of Teachers Certificate. For some specialist positions, additional training including master’s degrees will be required.
