Application Checklist

The application process for a job in BC’s public education sector is determined at the individual school district level.  Each district has its own unique set of guidelines for applicants to follow when applying for a job.  To ensure that your application has been submitted in the appropriate manner, please read each job posting carefully.

Before applying to a teaching opportunity in one of BC’s public schools, it is helpful to be mindful of the following:

  1. Is the district hiring?
  2. Are your application documents current ?
  3. Do you have good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch (formerly BC College of Teachers)?
    • If you’re an applicant from outside of the province of British Columbia, or you’ve been out of the workforce for a few years, check with the Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education to see if your certificate is still valid (not cancelled or suspended).
  4. Have you made your application portfolio visible to school districts?
    • When you create an online application portfolio on Makeafuture.ca, it may be invisible to school districts.  Follow these easy steps to make your application visible:
      1. Login to your account
      2. Under ‘My Porfolio’, check off the box to make your portfolio visible to that district
  5. Does I apply on-line or off-line?
    • Read the job posting clearly to see if the district specifies an alternate way to apply. If it doesn’t, assume that you may apply online.
  6. Have you signed-up for Make a Future’s e-news for educators?
    • Sign-up for our monthly e-news for educators for updates about employment and career opportunities in BC’s schools and districts.
  7. Are you following Make a Future’s job updates on Twitter & Facebook?
