About

“To inspire students to develop a love for learning in a caring and stimulating environment.”

We are committed to improving the achievement of all students. District goal areas are K-12 Dogwood Graduation Rates and School Completion Rates, Literacy/Numeracy, and Social Responsibility. We are also committed to our second five-year Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement with our six Aboriginal communities.

Regional Diversity

The Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District is located on central Vancouver Island with easy access to the rest of the Island and the Lower Mainland. We offer a full range of education programs and are committed to providing strong professional support services and healthy physical environments for our students, teachers and support staff.

Specialty Programs

In addition to the 33 elementary schools, 7 secondary schools and 2 secondary learning alternative programs, the district also offers the Learn@Home K-7 program, the Learn@Home 8-12 program, the Career Technical Centre, and the Aurora Program on Gabriola Island. We have secondary specialty academies (soccer, hockey, jazz and performing arts) as well as established programs for international education and early French immersion.

Community Culture

The Nanaimo-Ladysmith community actively supports its students and schools through a variety of innovative partnerships.

Draw for Employees

Due to the excellent climate on Vancouver Island and some of the most beautiful wilderness in the world, staff members enjoy a variety of recreational activities year-round. Our unique culture supports the continued learning of staff and students.
